We, the undersigned, respectfully ask the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to approve the permits associated with the Enbridge Line 5 relocation project in Northern Wisconsin. Line 5 is a critical piece of energy infrastructure that transports essential fuels to heat homes, schools, and businesses, power transportation, and fuel industry and agriculture in Wisconsin and throughout the region. The new route was thoroughly surveyed and selected to avoid sensitive resources and areas. The project design reflects a mindful plan to mitigate and/or minimize the impacts on wetlands and waterbodies. Please approve the Line 5 relocation without further delay.

Background
Enbridge has proposed relocating a section of the Line 5 energy pipeline off the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Reservation. The 41-mile reroute of Line 5 would both satisfy the request of the Bad River Band leadership to remove the pipeline from the reservation and allow this piece of critical energy infrastructure to continue to safely operate in Wisconsin as it has done so since 1953. Line 5 is unique because it not only moves crude oil that is refined into transportation fuels, but it also transports natural gas liquids that are made into propane. If Line 5 were to shut down, a major propane supplier has warned it will close its three propane refineries in our region, including one in Superior, creating a supply shortage in our region not seen since the propane state of emergency a decade ago.
The proposed relocation route was selected to avoid sensitive areas like Copper Falls State Park and all landowners on the route have agreed to host the line. Extensive environmental surveys and field studies were conducted to evaluate wetlands and waterbodies, threatened and endangered species habitat, and archaeological and cultural resources.
The relocation project has broad support from businesses, labor unions and farm groups across Wisconsin. The permits have been under review for over 4 years. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has opened a comment period seeking input from the public on the relocation project. Please add your name in support to the petition that will be delivered to the Army Corps at the conclusion of the comment period.
